Appointments System

The routine surgery opening hours are Monday to Friday 08:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 18:00

Routine Appointments

We have moved to a mostly same day service, however we do offer a limited number pre-bookable appointments at the GPs request.

How do I make an appointment?

Appointments can be booked online or can be made by calling the surgery and speaking to the patient care co-ordinator. The patient care co-ordinator will be able to offer you the next available appointment.

You may have to wait longer for an appointment if you wish to specify a particular doctor.

What if I can’t attend during normal opening hours?

We provide extended hour surgeries for those who are not able to attend during normal working hours, this means you may be directed to alternative out of hours HUB services.

Telephone Assessment

We operate a telephone assessment system for patients requesting same day attention. The clinician will call you back and assess your condition.

It is only the assessment service who can allocate a same day appointment, not the receptionists.

If it is deemed appropriate, you may be offered an appointment at one of three GP access centres across Sheffield 6pm-10pm weekdays and 10am-6pm weekends. These centres include; The Flowers Medical Centre, Sloan Medical Centre and Woodhouse Medical Centre.

How Can the Nurse Help?

It is entirely possible that the nurse herself can deal with your condition. Three of our nurses are nurse practitioners. The nurse can treat and prescribe for many acute illnesses. If the nurse feels you need to see a doctor they will arrange the right appointment for you.

Please remember, these appointments are strictly for the condition triaged and are in addition to the doctor's routine appointments.

Emergencies

There are some situations that require immediate attention and calling 999 is the right thing to do. This would include somebody having a heart attack, stroke, being unconscious or a broken limb.

More information on emergencies can be found on the NHS web site.

Care Navigation

You may notice our reception team start to ask why you need to see a GP. This is to help assist in our new approach using care navigation. All of our reception team has undergone training to help assist in directing you to the most appropriate service. Our reception team will not be giving clinical advice or triaging, they will however be offering other services which may be more suitable for your problem. Some of the services reception may suggest are:

Home Visits

We reserve home visits for patients who are unable to leave their home. This group of patients would be expected to be the very elderly who are housebound or disabled.

  • Telephone Assessment - all requests for visits may be assessed by a doctor who may be able to deal with your problem on the phone. The doctor will prefer to speak to the patient directly.
  • Why is this our policy? In the time it can take for one home visit, the doctor can see about four patients in surgery. A lot of people now have access to their own transport or can ask for help with transport from their friends, neighbour and family. Minimising home visiting allows more people overall to access our doctors.

Please make visit requests before 10:30. Requests after 10:30 may be deferred to the next working day. The receptionist may ask you what the problem is so that this information can be passed onto the doctor.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend (DNA), you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Interpreter

If you require an interpreter to attend with you when you see your Doctor please notify the receptionist and they will arrange this for you.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Please remember to update your contact details with us when you change address, telephone numbers and email address.

Remote and face-to-face appointments can be made with a variety of GP practice staff including Doctors, Advance Care Practitioners, Nurses, Nurse Associates, Health Care Assistants, Physiotherapists and Pharmacists.

Initially appointments can be booked through the practice, but we will soon be adding the option for patients to book direct online and through NHS 111.
